The future of healthcare looms in front of our eyes with advances in digital healthcare technologies, such as artificial intelligence, VR/AR, 3D printing, robotics or nanotechnology. We have to get acquainted with the latest developments to be able to control the technology and not the other way around. The future of health care lies in working hand in hand with technology, and health care workers must embrace emerging health care technologies to stay relevant in the coming years.
1 Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence has the potential to completely redesign health care. AI algorithms can extract medical records, design treatment plans, or create drugs much faster than any current actor on the health care palette, including any medical professional.
2. Virtual reality
Virtual reality (VR) is changing the lives of patients and doctors alike. In the future, you can observe operations as if you were running the scalpel or if you were able to travel to Iceland or your home while lying in a hospital bed.
3. Augmented reality
Augmented reality differs from virtual reality in two respects: users don’t lose touch with reality and put information in sight as quickly as possible. These distinctive features allow AR to become a driving force in the future of medicine; on both the health care providers’ and the recipient’s side.
4. Health trackers, portable devices and sensors
As the future of medicine and health care is closely related to the empowerment of patients, as well as people who deal with their own health through technologies, I cannot omit health trackers, devices laptops and sensors from my selection. They are excellent devices to learn more about ourselves and take back control of our own lives.
5. 3D printing
3D printing can bring wonders in all aspects of health care. Now we can print biotissues, artificial limbs, pills, blood vessels and the list continues and we will probably continue to do so.
Food for thought
We are really living through revolutionary times for health care thanks to the advent of digital health. Our mission is to spread the knowledge and advances in health care that will mark the beginning of the real age of the art of medicine.
