Possible causes include a combination of biological, psychological, and social sources of distress.

A growing body of research suggests that these factors may cause changes in brain function, such as abnormal activity of certain neural circuits in the brain. Major depressive disorder is a mood disorder. It occurs when feelings of sadness, loss, anger, or frustration interfere with daily life for a long period of time. It also changes the way the body works.

THE CAUSES OF DEPRESSIVE DISORDER MAY BE:

  • Alcoholism or drug addiction
  • Diseases such as hypothyroidism, cancer or prolonged pain.
  • The use of certain medications, such as steroids.
  • Insomnia
  • Excessive stress, divorce, medical problems, childhood abuse or rejection, loneliness.

SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSIVE DISORDER:

They may include disturbances in sleep habits, appetite, energy level, concentration, daily behavior, or self-esteem. Depression can also be associated with suicidal thoughts. A person with depression may also have many physical symptoms, such as aches and pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems. Someone with depression may also have trouble waking up in the morning feeling tired.

TREATMENT FOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDER:

For treatment there are different classes of drugs and medications that can be used to treat depression, as well as psychotherapy. The main treatment is medication, consisting of antidepressants, talk therapy, or a combination of both. A growing body of research suggests that these treatments may normalize the brain changes associated with depression. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, Antidepressant, Anxiolytic and Antipsychotic. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, Behavior therapy and Psychotherapy.

There is no cure for depression, there are effective treatments that help with recovery. The earlier treatment begins, the more successful it can be. Many people with depression recover after following a treatment plan.

Vitamin B-12 and other B vitamins play an important role in the production of brain chemicals that affect mood and other brain functions. Low levels of vitamin B-12 and other B vitamins, such as vitamin B-6 and folic acid, may be linked to depression.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO REDUCE DEPRESSIVE DISORDER:

  • Help him to be active. Maintaining a minimum of activity is important for someone with depression, as are other lifestyle guidelines.
  • Take time to be with him/her.
  • Be patient and empathetic.
  • Avoid criticism and reproach.
