Acute low back pain is a common painful disorder that affects the lower spine.

Low back pain is caused by an injury to a muscle (strain) or ligament (sprain). The cause is due to certain actions, such as exercising too much, lifting a lot of weight, sitting or lying down for a long time, sleeping in an awkward position or wearing an inappropriate backpack, lack of regular exercise, fractures, herniated discs or arthritis. Usually, the only symptom is pain in the lower back. The average duration of low back pain is 2 to 3 weeks as long as the pain is immediately controlled with physiotherapy and therapeutic exercise.

This disease can begin with eventual pain on one or both sides of the lower back.

It is important to know that lumbago localizes the pain in the lower back, while sciatica occurs in the leg.

TREATMENT:

  • Apply heat or ice to the painful area.
  • A good method is to use ice for the first 48 to 72 hours and then use heat. During the first hours, it is best to apply cold, a gel pack or frozen peas wrapped in a cloth to the affected area. Cold is very useful for reducing pain caused by inflammation and reducing muscle spasms. The heat helps relax the back muscles.
  • Take pain relievers such as ibuprofen. sodium naproxen.
  • Epidural steroid injections (ESI)

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Walking is good because you have to move to strengthen the muscles and oxygenate them.
  • It is very important that you avoid a sedentary lifestyle.
  • When you have a lumbago crisis you can take a break of about 3 days.
  • A good sleeping position if you have lower back pain is on your back, with your knees bent and something under them (a pillow).

PROHIBITED EXERCISES FOR THE LOWER ZONE:

  • Deadlift exercise.
  • Lateral push-ups with dumbbells.
  • Abdominals with rotation or Russian Twist.
