Hemorrhoids are one of the best known diseases, also called piles, they are swollen veins in the anus and the lower part of the rectum, similar to varicose veins.
There are two types of hemorrhoids, external and internal, and they refer to their location.
External hemorrhoids are created near the anus and in some cases thrombosis occurs and can cause pain. On the other hand internal hemorrhoids are created inside the anus under the skin.
Most external hemorrhoids are not serious and usually go away on their own, but their symptoms can be bothersome.
The specialist can diagnose internal hemorrhoids through examinations in the anus and rectum, by touch or with an anoscope, colonoscopy or any other examination that is required.
The exact cause of hemorrhoids is unknown. However, some factors contribute to its appearance: Chronic constipation or diarrhea, pregnancy, excess laxatives, hereditary causes.
The most common symptoms are:
Bleeding during bowel movements, itching and pain in the anal area.
Avoid straining or wiping around your anus because it can make your symptoms worse.
For the relief of its symptoms in a few days, the recommended treatment is the following:
Minimally invasive treatments such as rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, and coagulation techniques, which can be performed in the doctor’s office. There are other treatments such as: Apply creams for hemorrhoids or suppositories with hydrocortisone; take a sitz bath with warm water for a few minutes; analgesics; apply suppositories with aloe vera pulp.
Now, if the patient does not improve with the above treatments, the doctor must resort to surgical procedures, to correct the condition.
