Navigating the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities, Risks and Pharmamedic’s Ethical Commitment.
By Egidio Simonelli
Navigating the era of artificial intelligence (AI), we realize that it is revolutionizing our society, bringing with it a wide range of benefits but also significant ethical and social concerns.
One of the most pressing issues is how over-reliance on AI could alter our orientation in life, pushing us toward a state of confusion and mechanization, with the risk of seriously restricting our personal freedom.
Information overload and automated decisions:
AI, which can process huge amounts of data, can lead to information overload, making it difficult for people to filter out what is relevant. In addition, AI’s growing ability to make decisions in crucial areas such as medicine and finance could make individuals overly dependent on these technologies, eroding the capacity for critical evaluation and decision autonomy.
Uniformity of thinking and invasion of privacy:
Standardization of thinking is another risk, with algorithms promoting solutions based on efficiency logics that can suppress creativity and individuality. The pervasive use of AI in data collection could also lead to a loss of privacy, influencing behaviors and limiting individual freedom under the constant surveillance of intelligent systems.
Disconnection from reality and impact on work:
The introduction of virtual realities and personalized algorithms can also cause a disconnection from physical reality, negatively affecting social relationships and perception of the world. In the workplace, automation may transform the job market, making some jobs obsolete and changing people’s sense of identity and purpose.
In the face of these potential negative scenarios, initiatives such as those of the Pharmamedic Health Circuit, which operates four platforms in the health sector, are emerging.
That is why Pharmamedic strives to use AI ethically, aiming to improve the health and well-being of users while alerting them to the risks of misuse of technologies. Their mission is to prevent harm and guide users toward a freer and less constrained future.
These initiatives highlight how crucial it is to promote responsible and regulated use of AI, with a strong commitment to digital education and safeguarding fundamental freedoms. Only in this way can we ensure that AI truly serves humanity, enriching our lives without compromising our autonomy and diversity.
