This type of treatment allows:

  • Stop the evolution of the curve.
  • Correct it in a variable proportion, depending on various characteristics of it.
  • Maintain the correction obtained in time, thus avoiding the delayed repercussions of the deformity.

To achieve these objectives properly, the surgical technique used is complex, bleeding, prolonged, and not free of risks, although current procedures offer very satisfactory results.

The basis of the treatment is obtaining a solid vertebral fusion of the affected segments, at least in the position of greatest possible correction.

Currently most of the procedures apply the principles:

  • Fixation in multiple vertebral segments (not only at the ends).
  • Correction of vertebral rotation.
  • Restoration of the thoracic curve.
