The treatment of this disease must be individualized for each patient, depending on the type and severity of the clinical manifestations; therefore, before starting treatment, it is necessary to evaluate the affected organs and the activity of the disease.

For each manifestation, a type of treatment is recommended:

Mild manifestations of lupus

In the treatment of mild manifestations such as arthritis, joint and muscle pain, fever or fatigue, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are useful. If these are not effective corticosteroids will be used in low doses. Hydroxychloroquine is indicated for cutaneous manifestations, which is also useful for fatigue and arthritis. Topical corticosteroids (applied in the form of an ointment) are useful in skin lesions.

Severe manifestations of lupus

In the case of neurological, renal, anemia and other severe manifestations, it is necessary to use corticosteroids in high doses. In many cases it is necessary to add immunosuppressive corticosteroids such as cyclophosphamide or cyclosporine.
