This means that the person can only see a static world in which for an instant the object or person is in one place and at a different time. They tend to have numerous problems performing their daily tasks normally.
Daily activities such as holding a conversation are highly complicated as the patient is unable to perceive changes in the movement of facial expressions. Likewise, daily routines, such as crossing the street, become something very dangerous; since it is not possible to perceive the movement of cars.
In order to compensate for these difficulties, people train their hearing, in this way, through the sense of listening they can, for example, calculate the distance of moving objects.
One of the causes of this disorder may be a lesion caused in the posterior area of the visual cortex, likewise, such as the consumption of certain antidepressants or hallucinogens or some diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Treatment:
There are currently no specific treatments for akinetopsia. In cases in which this disease is caused by the consumption of psychoactive drugs, the interruption of their consumption should eliminate the symptoms of this condition.
Brain surgery is a dangerous option and is used to try to eliminate akinetopsia in those cases in which there is an underlying brain lesion.
