Arteriosclerosis is a condition in which plaque builds up inside the arteries.

Plaque is a sticky substance made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood. Over time, this plaque hardens and narrows the arteries. That limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood. It can affect the medium and large arteries of the brain, heart, kidneys, other vital organs, and legs.

Plaque buildup can take years off life, especially in people who have complications.

Arteriosclerosis occurs when the blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body (arteries) thicken and harden, sometimes restricting blood flow to organs and tissues, preventing proper blood flow through the affected artery. It usually starts after the age of 20 and grows little by little throughout life.

It develops slowly, as cholesterol, fat, blood cells, and other substances in the blood form plaque. When plaque builds up, it causes narrowing of the arteries. Therefore, when atherosclerosis causes the arteries near the heart to narrow, you can get coronary artery disease, which can lead to chest pain (angina), heart attack, or heart failure.

Symptoms:

  • It develops slowly, as cholesterol, fat, blood cells, and other substances in the blood form plaque. When plaque builds up, it causes narrowing of the arteries.
  • You may have sudden numbness or weakness in your arms or legs,
  • Difficulty speaking or slurring.
  • Temporary loss of vision in one eye or drooping of facial muscles. This is a sign of a transient ischemic attack.

Recommendations:

  • Avoid foods rich in cholesterol such as: lard, cream, butter, sausages, eggs.
  • Choose foods that are high in fiber and carbohydrates.
  • Very important to have a healthy diet and exercise.
  • In certain cases, use medications or surgical procedures.
  • No Smoking.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Lower high blood pressure.
  • Eat more vegetables.
  • The number one in natural cleansing for the arteries is the pomegranate, this fruit is one of the richest sources of natural antioxidants.
  • Vitamin D can help by improving the lining of blood vessel walls to allow blood to flow freely and reduce the harmful effects of inflammation, along with several other outcomes.
  • Regular consumption of 5 g of raw garlic twice a day for 42 days lowers total cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
